Meet Donia Yousry, an Egyptian stay-at-home mom who lives in New York, with a passion for writing and a love for Egyptology. A graduate of Cairo University, Donia pursued her interest in ancient history while continuing to foster her creative side. When she’s not busy writing for a local mom blog, you can find her playing the drums, indulging in cooking competition shows, or gaming on her phone.
As an author, Donia draws inspiration from her personal experiences as a mother and her journey with ADHD. Not only do her two children have ADHD, she also received a diagnosis as an adult. The idea for Racing Mind was sparked by her youngest child’s difficulties in school and the subsequent emotional hurdles.
Donia’s goal is to highlight neurodivergence honestly—showing both the highs and the lows—without sugar-coating the reality of ADHD. She wanted to empower her daughter, and other kids like her, to understand that it’s perfectly OK to be different.
In Donia's debut children's book, Racing Mind, readers follow Mira, a young girl who learns she has ADHD. With a mind full of racing thoughts, she worries that her diagnosis will come to define her. But through the support of her family, friends, teacher, and doctor, Mira discovers that her uniqueness is something to embrace.
